Watersports Guru Welcomes Summer!

November 19th, 2010

Once again our weather is warming up and our days are getting longer, which means it’s time to start getting back to nature and enjoying what it has to offer. Our home is unique in the fact we have so much diversity with being active outdoors. From the Hinterlands to our West and the Ocean on our doorstep not forgetting our beautiful estuaries, we have a multitude of things to do. It’s time you got back to nature and had some fun and adventure.

Whale watching everyday!

November 1st, 2010

For the next coming months until November, over 11,000 Humpback whales will migrate past our beaches.

If your lucky you may have a close encounter off the beach but if you really want to get up-close and personal with these

majestic mammals then you’ll have to jump on board and join us on the ocean. Each day we do we are graced with their presence

and at up to 50 tonne in weight they are pretty hard to miss.

The best way to spot a whale is to look out for the spray from it’s blow hole which will hang a few meters in the air, after that

have your camera steady and get ready for a breach. http://watersportsguru.com/watersports/whale-watching/

Grey Nurse Sharks return!

October 19th, 2010

It’s that time of year when we are forced to rug up and face those winter chills. But with that comes the arrival of the

endangered Grey Nurse Shark (GNS). This dangerous and threatening looking but very timid shark seems to migrate North

whenever it’s time to don the beanie and squeeze into the thicker wetsuit. One of the best spots to see these awesome ocean dwellers

is at 9 mile off the Tweed Coast. The gutter which  lies in 25 m of water seems to be the perfect hang out and it’s common to get

up to 20 circling GNS around the rocky arena. Grey Nurse Sharks are generally very timid but if you get too close they have a

tenancy to crack their tale which will make you blow a few more bubble than usual.

If you want to head out to 9 mile and hang out with the Grey Nurse Sharks give me a buzz because I will jump at any opportunity to get out there.

Welcome to the rocks
